Q2 was my second self-published book, completed in the spring of 1990. 200 copies were printed offset, with my hand-done woodcut print on the wrap cover. Over half were destroyed by a relative who hoped to save the world from my insanity.
The way Q2 should be read (though this is not the way I was introducing it in the book) is as a way members of our species might have guided themselves once they realized they could use tools and build housing and communities for themselves. I envisioned the possibilities of using “The Question” as guidance to avoid harms to earth and life, but was not sure how to put this forward in writing. The book may have been seen (by the few who got through it) as suggesting people go right out and live in a primitive way. I never expected that, even of myself (though I was willing to quit my job, head west and experiment). I was simply trying to imagine, and express, how a lifestyle of non harm to the planet and its life might be set up and run. This would be the baseline to build communities on, which doubtless would have become more comfortable over time.
I ran into problems with my experiments and will discuss them.
